The undefeated knockout artist and WBC interim super welterweight world champion, Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs), and the contender, Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs), stood face to face at a press conference in Arlington, Texas, to announce their upcoming fight on November 8.
Ortiz, a native of Grand Prairie, is looking to put on a show for his hometown fans and prove his reputation as one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers.
Lubin, a top-ranked boxer, is venturing into enemy territory and will seek to demonstrate his own power, which will undoubtedly be a spectacle for attendees and viewers at home.
Here is some of what both warriors commented:
VERGIL ORTIZ JR.
“Lubin is a dangerous fighter because he has intellect, experience, and power. He likes to fight. I’ve seen his fights before. He legitimately comes to fight. I respect that, but he’s also a smart fighter, so when you add both of those things together, that’s when you have a dangerous fighter.
“It’s going to be electrifying. Everyone in Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Dallas, wherever they are from, they always come. There is a great boxing fan base here in Texas. I know all the fans will enjoy it on November 8th.
“I am very motivated. I want to win. I want to win looking good. Just being in the ring with someone with Erickson Lubin’s experience motivates me to train harder. This fight excites me, I want to work hard; I want to perform well in the ring.”
ERICKSON LUBIN
“I fought for the world title in just my third year; this is my twelfth year as a professional. I didn’t back down. I faced top-tier opponents, one after another, and Vergil Ortiz is no exception. He is another top-tier boxer. This is my third consecutive undefeated boxer, and I seek to become that boxer at 154 pounds.
“I’m excited. Vergil Ortiz is a great competitor, and I think the fans are going to have a great time. November 8th will be a spectacle, it will be… A great matchup. We have an African-American boxer against a Mexican boxer, which always leads to a great fight. It will be a historic duel.
“On November 8th, there will be a spectacle. I want everyone to tune in live on DAZN. It will be a special fight, a great matchup. My hat’s off to Vergil Ortiz and his team. Tune in!”
The card is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with ProBox and will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN starting at 8 p.m. ET.
