
Valdez hadn’t fought since December of last year.
But on Saturday, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, he faced American Richard Medina in a 10-round bout.
The Mexican fighter dominated most of the contest, working Medina with powerful combinations in search of a knockout. To control the distance, Valdez used his jab and hooks effectively.
After 10 rounds, the judges scored the fight 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93, awarding the former champion a unanimous decision victory.
Óscar Valdez now holds a record of 33-3, with 24 KOs.
