Farewell to Ibeth “Roca” Zamora: WBC Eternal Champion

A heartfelt tribute was held in Toluca for Ibeth “Roca” Zamora, celebrating her brilliant career in boxing. A video presentation highlighted her achievements and history in the ring.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán addressed the audience to recognize her legacy:

“What an honor to be in Toluca. We first knew Roca as a little girl, and she grew into a great champion who paved the way for women’s boxing. The time has come to hang up the gloves, and she does it in an emotional way. For the World Boxing Council, Ibeth Zamora is an eternal champion.”

During the ceremony, a mini belt was also presented to Zamora’s trainer, Carlos Duarte, in recognition of his contribution. Joining via Zoom, Roberto Díaz and Gabriel Cordero dedicated words of admiration to the champion.

Díaz stated: “I was fortunate to work with you; you are a pride for Mexico and for all of us who know you. Today begins a new stage—be an inspiration for the next generations.”

Cordero added: “She fought through many adversities inside and outside the ring; she is a true warrior. Very few risked as much as she did.”

As a symbol of this new chapter, Zamora was presented with a Tree of Life, along with a special recognition from Toluca’s mayor, Ricardo Moreno.

An emotional Zamora shared her thoughts:

“Today I can say that dreams can be lived. At 15, I had the idea of becoming a boxer and a world champion. To the upcoming female fighters, I say that as women, and as indigenous women, we have the right to live our dreams. Becoming a three-time world champion is something I never thought I would achieve. Today, I officially say goodbye to boxing.”
