This Saturday in Veracruz, Mexico’s Esneidy “Leona” Rodríguez will aim to successfully defend her WBC Silver atomweight title against Thai challenger Wisuta Sririttidet. Both fighters appeared at the WBC’s traditional Martes de Café event, where they shared their thoughts ahead of the upcoming bout.
Rodríguez, proud to be fighting at home, made it clear she’s prepared for outright war in the ring.
“I trained for three months—two in Veracruz and one at high altitude in Perote, Veracruz,” she said. “I’m expecting a great fight. When I step into the ring, I don’t just come to fight—I come to go to war.”
Sririttidet, visibly moved by the welcome she received, expressed gratitude for the hospitality and her determination to win over the Mexican fans.
“Thank you for the warm welcome—Mexico is a beautiful country. I’ve trained hard for this fight and studied the champion’s style,” said the Thai contender.
“This is a big challenge for me. I came all the way from Thailand and I want to put on a great show for the Mexican fans. I’m sure this fight won’t go the distance—please support me too.”
Promoter Atilano Ramírez acknowledged the logistical effort behind organizing an international matchup of this scale.
“It was difficult to bring the Thai fighter over as a promoter. Thanks to the support from the state, we were able to make it happen,” he noted.
“Saturday will be a war in the ring.”
Everything is set for a clash of styles and cultures in Veracruz, where Esneidy Rodríguez will aim to hold off the challenge of Wisuta Sririttidet in a title defense that promises intensity, emotion, and a whole lot of heart inside the ring.
