Ellie Scotney is the new unified super bantamweight champion

The Brit is the new queen of the 122-pound division. 

Scotney controlled the fight with punctilious precision. Mercado, more of a warrior, tried to close the distance, but was constantly jarring my counterpunched.

The Brit showed great boxing IQ, good lateral movement, and a variety of punches. This victory establishes her as the unified champion, bringing her closer to undisputed super bantamweight status.

During the fight, Scotney inflicted a jagged  cut on Mercado’s forehead; the Mexican returned the favor by opening a cut below her eyebrow. 

Scotney won by unanimous decision (100-90, 98-92, 98-92).
