
After struggling with a bone condition in his hip, in which the bones experienced friction, causing severe pain and limited movement, Great former WBC Great Tommy Hearns underwent hip replacement surgery.
The 66-year-old icon said during a press release: “I finally had it replaced, and now I’m going through therapy so I can heal properly and eventually get back to the gym.”
In the press release, he also shared a video of himself walking after his surgery.
Thomas Hearns was a multiple-time WBC world champion in multiple divisions. He was first the super welterweight champion from 1982 to 1986, vacating his title to pursue the WBC 175-pound light heavyweight crown.
From 1987 to 1989, he was the WBC middleweight world champion. After losing his title to Iran Barkley, he sought to move up to super middleweight and conquer the title held by “Sugar” Ray Leonard, but the fight ended in a draw and Leonard retained the crown.
Throughout his career, Tommy Hearns gave us memorable fights, most notably and memorably his bouts with Ray Leonard, Iran Barkley, Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Durán and Marvelous Marvin Hagler. The Era of The Four Kings.
Thomas “Hitam” Hearns retired in 2006 with a record of 65-5-1 and 48 KOs. Always thrilling, exciting, lion-hearted and hard hitting, Tommy’s exceptional career, was guided and mentored by Emanuel Steward. It stands and remains granite solid and meteorically stellar.
