Kenia Enriquez is no longer the interim champion in the flyweight division, a title she won in September 2023 by defeating Ibeth Zamora via unanimous decision.
This decision is due to her inactivity since then. Kenia made one defense of her crown in February 2024, when she defeated Maria Salinas by unanimous decision.
She received a “step aside” agreement from Sampson Lewkowicz, conditional on her participating in a preparation fight. However, the Tijuana boxer opted to participate in a mixed martial arts (MMA) bout and has announced that she will continue practicing that discipline.
The World Boxing Council reiterates its absolute respect for all combat sports. Nevertheless, it also reaffirms its responsibility to keep its titles active and competitive for the benefit of boxing, its female fighters, and fans.
We thank Kenia Enriquez for her time as interim WBC champion and wish her success in the paths she chooses to take in her career.
