American Shamar Leon Canal was crowned World Boxing Council International Lightweight Champion after defeating Nicaraguan Bryan Jiménez by decision.
The title was vacant, as Antonio Pérez had previously lost it due to inactivity.
Shamar (12-0, 7 KOs) showed better boxing skills from the outset, dominating a tough opponent namely Bryan (17-2, 10 KOs), who always sought to fight with determination, but not with enough skill against motivated and channeled Canal.
Jiménez proved to be a tough test for Shamar, perhaps the first of his career. Canal knocked down Jiménez in the eighth round to secure the victory.
The judges’ scores were: Pat Dayton Monroe 96-93, Buddy Caskey 95-94, and Bassel Mahgoub 98-91.
