
1969 – Joe Frazier defeated Jerry Quarry to defend his world heavyweight title. The referee stopped the fight due to a cut on Quarry’s eye. It was considered Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine
1973 – The Great José “Mantequilla” Napoles defended his WBC welterweight title by a wide decision in 15 rounds, defeating French challenger Roger Menetrey.
1984 – Edwin “Chapo” Rosario defended his WBC lightweight crown for the second time, defeating Howard Davis Jr. via split decision.
1986 – Azumah Nelson defeated challenger Danilo Cabrera via TKO in 10 rounds. With this victory, he defended his WBC featherweight crown.
2001 – Oscar de La Hoya vs Javier Castillejo
On June 23, 2001, Oscar De La Hoya became the third boxer in history to win the world championship in five different divisions. De La Hoya was superior throughout the fight, and at times Castillejo was overwhelmed by the enormous superiority of one of the best boxers of his decade.
