Thus Saturday, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Camilla Zamorano can make history, as she could become the youngest champion in history, if she wins the WBC interim atom world title.
The baby faced 17-year-old Mexican boxer, faces a tough challenge against the veteran Japanese fighter Mika Iwakawa.
Zamorano, who won the WBC International atom world title late last year, has an undefeated record of 11 wins.
Mika Iwakawa, a former IBF and WBO world champion in the atom division, holds a record of 13-7-1 with 4 KOs.
In another absorbing bout, former Mexican world champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada returns to the ring after his loss last year to hard hitting Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez.
Estrada, 35, with a 44-4 record, 28 knockouts fights compatriot Karim Arce, 28, with a 21-2-2 record, 8 knockouts, to officially begin his bantamweight campaign.
The highlights of Estrada’s reign were the second and third fights of his exciting trilogy with legend Román “Chocolatito González.” Their first meeting was in November 2012, when the Nicaraguan González outpointed Estrada.
Their rematch in March 2021 was one of the best of the year, with Estrada winning by split decision.
In the final and concluding bout of their trilogy, in December 2022, Estrada defeated González by majority decision to retain his WBC crown in Glendale, Arizona.
Arce steps up for this fight, returning after a nearly year-long absence. The 27-year-old contender, originally from Los Mochis, enters this fight after defeating Kevin Villanueva in a bout for the WBC Silver Youth Super Bantamweight title.
