Stamp Honors 50 Years of Don José Sulaimán’s Historic Leadership of the WBC

Today, the First Day of Issue Ceremony for the commemorative postage stamp by Correos de México, in collaboration with the WBC, took place at the Postal Palace in Mexico City.

This year marks what would have been the 50th anniversary of Don José Sulaimán’s tenure as the lifetime President of the World Boxing Council. To celebrate this historic milestone, Correos de México has released five special stamps in his honor. Cherishing the memory of a Great and Pioneering Man.

Don José Sulaimán became President of the WBC in 1975 and held the position until his passing in 2014. Over nearly 39 years of leadership, he oversaw tremendous growth and innovation within the WBC, focusing upon the safety and well-being of boxers. Today, with the leadership of Mauricio Sulaimán, the WBC continues to uphold and further develop these same values, ideals and ideals, always putting fighters first. Paramount priority.

The stamps feature Raúl “Ratón” Macías, Muhammad Ali, Julio César Chávez, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, and the WBC’s lifetime President, José Sulaimán.

A total of 375,000 stamps will be issued, spanning Mexico and the world with the message: “Boxing is not just a sport, but a way of life.”

The legacy of Mexican boxing and the WBC is recognized worldwide for the quality of its fighters. With the support of Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, boxing has become a powerful force for unity.

This is not the first time the WBC has been honored with a stamp by Correos de México—the first one was issued in 1988.

The commemorative WBC stamp will officially go on sale on Wednesday, June 11.

Maestra Violeta Abreu González, Director General of Correos de México, announced this new partnership between the WBC and Correos de México.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán revealed that throughout the coming year, various joint events will be held by the Green and Gold organization in collaboration with Correos de México, starting with an exhibition of historical items from the WBC museum.
