Mrs. María de la Luz Gutiérrez, mother of former boxers Oscar and Francisco Bejines, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago.
Since then, with the support of her entire family, they’ve been beside her in this battle to overcome this terrible disease.
Fortunately, at 85 years old, Mrs. María is in better health after a difficult battle, during which the WBC was in her corner, helping to cover some of her medical expenses.
Her son, Oscar “Negro” Bejines, commented, “I thank Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán and the WBC for the great work they do, not only with sanctioning fights but also with supporting boxers and their families. As a boxer, I never won the Green and Gold Title, but it was always my dream.”
Oscar had a distinguished professional career, with 34 wins (26 by knockout), 6 losses, and 4 draws, facing high-caliber rivals including Roger Mayweather, Bazooka Limón, Héctor López, and Rubén Castillo, among others. He currently shares his knowledge by training young boxers at the La Vieja Escuela gym in Jalisco.

His brother, Francisco “Kiko” Bejines, tragically passed away after a 1983 fight against Alberto Dávila for the WBC bantamweight title.
“My family is very grateful for the WBC’s support. Don José Sulaimán supported my brother Kiko when he had his accident in the ring, and now Don Mauricio has supported my mother,” concluded “El Negro.”
