In a battle between Poles for Pole position, to challenge Absolute Monarch Keven Lerena, via the World Boxing Council’s interim Bridgerweight championship, Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk defeated Adam Balski in a great fight at the Hala Sportowo-Widowiskowa Arena in Poland.
Włodarczyk aged 44, fought his 71st professional fight, but it was the first time his opponent was a fellow countryman. The 34-year-old Balski (20 wins, two losses) had the opportunity to perform for the second time in front of his home crowd, which packed the arena in great numbers.
The first rounds went to Balski, while Włodarczyk tried to save his strength and limited himself to defending from his opponent’s attacks. In the fifth round, Balski’s left hook caught “Diablo” on the head, sending him to the canvass.
The next two rounds were evenly matched, but at the end of the eighth round, it was Balski who was knocked down.
Both boxers lost some steam, but the fans were then treated to more daring exchanges of punches. In the tenth round, another left hook caught Balski to the jaw, sending him to the ground again. The referee started the count, but seeing Adam’s condition, decided to end the fight.
