Galal Yafai keen for WBC interim title defence against Chihuas Rodríguez
Galal Yafai will defend his WBC interim flyweight title against Mexican Francisco “Chihuas” Rodríguez on June 21 at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Yafai, a Brummie and 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, has been out of action since stopping Sunny Edwards in six rounds last November.
The victory was a breakout performance for Yafai (9-0, 7 KOs), who now looks to take another step forward against the veteran Rodríguez Jr., who is trained by Eddy Reynoso.
Rodríguez Jr. (38-6-1, 26 KOs) is a former strawweight champion looking to conquer a new division.
The winner will face WBC flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji from Japan, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
