
The first stage of the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix took place this weekend.
This first ever boxing world championship was at the BLVD City Global Theater in Riyadh.
The competition will have five stages throughout the year and will culminate in December with the crowning of the champions, who will also win the José Sulaimán trophy.
Here are the most relevant results of this first stage.
Day 1. Featherweight:
Héctor Munguía defeated Idris Gbadamosi by TKO in the sixth round.
Yusuf Adeniji won his bout against Carlos Arteaga by quality decision, the novel tiebreaker system of the tournament.
Enoch Tetteh lost by decision to Tyshawn Denson.
Bekizizwe Maitse defeated Rodolfo Puentes by unanimous decision.
Ghanaian Holy Dorgbetor defeated Oleksandr Solomennikov by split decision.
Zholdas Zhengissov knocked out El Yazid Ezzaidani with a right hook.
Ayubkhon Bakhtiyorov defeated Djamal Hadjab by TKO.
Yoni Valverde took the bout by unanimous decision against Runqi Zhou.
The judges scored in favor of Muhamet Qamili in his bout against Igor Semonchuk.
Day 2. Super lightweight:
Alan Dutra gave us one of the best KOs so far this year defeating Criztec Bazaldua.
Jerald Into and Ahmad Muhammad Jones had a bloody fight due to a clash of heads. Both decided to continue and Into won the bout by split decision.
Orlando Barajas Tirado, the youngest participant of the tournament at 17 years old, won against Polish Bartlomiej Przybyla by majority decision.
The Colombian, Colombian Carlos Utria, knocked down Elianel Guerrero three times in the second round coming out victorious in the bout.
Sanatali Toltayev knocked down unbeaten German Brochero in the last round of the bout.
Ntethelelo Nkosi was measured against Marwan Mohamad Madboly, stopping the fight at 1:01 of the third round.
Misael Cabrera took the fight against Joseph Abudy by unanimous decision.
Eric Basran defeated Isaiah Johnson by split decision.
Alan David Crenz advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Crisalito Beltran.
Austrian Hassan Hamdan won by majority decision over Jose Luis Sauceda.
Jose Luis Sauceda lost by unanimous decision to Danylo Lozan.
Mujibilio Tursunov won against Michael Adesodun.
Jokin Garcia failed to do enough to get the win and the judges awarded it to Ju Wu.
The judges scored in favor of Fiorenzo Priolo in his bout with Nurzhan Serikbayev.
Efe Derin Konuk got the victory over Olmo De Paz.
Canadian Spencer Wilcox was the winner of the bout against Samuel Quaye.
Day 3. Middleweight:
Telieke Ahan was unable to come out in the fifth round after punishment by Mohammad Issa.
In a very close fight, Lancelot Proton defeated Nurkanat Rayis.
Petro Frolov had the most resounding victory of the day against Claudiu Ienci. All three cards scored 60-53.
Ciril Suffo defeated Brandon Velazquez by unanimous decision.
Maksym Molodan defeated Giovanni Sarchioto by majority decision.
Isaac Torres ended his fight by TKO in the sixth round against Rasheed Adeyemo.
Anas El Abid withstood the 6 rounds with Paul Ryan but it was not enough and fell on the cards.
After going down in the second round, Saul Morales recovered and knocked out Shakul Samed.
Day 4. Heavyweight:
Keaton Gomes landed a powerful right hand on Roberto Medina in the first round to end the fight.
Denzel Onyango fell in the first round with the powerful right hands of Alija Mesic.
Reagan Apanu defeated Pavol Hrivnak by majority decision.
Vitaliy Stalchenko won a unanimous decision over Dylan Rajic.
Wu Peng Yang was defeated by Emiliano Mendoza on the cards.
The referee did not let Yordy Valenzuela continue after being knocked down by Ahmed Krnjic.
Devon Young knocked out Paulo Yuskiv in the second round.
Davide Brito took the fight against Clément Gillet.
Argentinean Jonathan Vegara won on the cards against Steven Torres.
Peter Lacz defeated Michael Pirotton by unanimous decision.
Tsotne Rogava sent Lewis Clarke to the canvas in the second round.
The WBC Riyadh Season Boxing Grand Prix will return in June, August, October and the grand finale will be in December.
