No small feat, as WBC and WBO atomweight champion Tina “Tiny Tina” Rupprecht will try to unify the atomweight titles by facing IBF champion Sumire Yamanaka.
The date will be this April 5 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany.
“Tiny Tina” was WBC strawweight champion since December 2018. On that occasion she faced the Venezuelan Niorkis Carreno whom she defeated by unanimous decision. She defended the championship 4 times until Seniesa Estrada won it from her in 2023.
Seeking a new challenge, Rupprecht moved down a division and fought for the atomweight championship. She took the crown from Fabiana Bytyqi by unanimous decision.
In her first defense of this new title, she not only defeated Japan’s Eri Matsuda, but also won the WBO belt.
Now, she will seek to unify the championships against Surime Yamanaka. She will come in with a record of 14-1-1 and 3 KO’s.
This will be the first defense for the Japanese warrior. Earlier last year, she took the belt from Mika Iwakawa. The current IBF champion has an undefeated record of 8 fights, finishing 3 of them by knockout.
