
Dominican Alberto Puello retained his World Boxing Council super lightweight title by defeating Spaniard Sandor Martin by split decision, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Martin was more active than expected and did not hesitate to fight hard, taking the initiative and being the aggressor.
Puello began to markedly improve in the seventh round and closed the gap against an opponent who started to pay for the physical effort expenditure of the earlier rounds.
The rounds began to be very close, as soon as one connected, the other responded effectively.
Puello made adjustments and concluded strongly, winning by a narrow margin.
After twelve rounds, one judge gave Puello the victory by 115-113, another judge gave it 113-115 for Martin and the third judge gave it 116-112 for Puello.
With this victory, Puello remains undefeated (24-0, 10 KO), while Martin moved to (42-4, 15 KO). Despite being defeated, Martin put on a great fight and received great recognition for his performance.
