
“Motor City Cobra” Tommy Hearns will strike a light at the “Night of Champions” Hublot Dinner and Auction
On May 3rd the greatest stars of boxing will shine at the Encore hotel in Las Vegas, for what promises to be a historic evening.
It`s the Night of Champions Gala and auction. One of the all time greats will be Tommy Hearns, considered one of the powerful KO artists of all time, Tommy was champion in five different divisions: welter, super welter, middle, super middle and light heavyweight.
“Cobra” also known as “Hitman” began his career in professional boxing in 1977, knocking out his first 17 opponents.
With an exceptional career, Hearns was chosen as “Boxer of the Year” by the Ring magazine in 1980. During his career, he won 61 victories, of which 48 ended before the final bell.
He fought incredible, all actions and exceptional battles against tremendous opponents including Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Durán, Wilfredo Benítez and Pipino Cuevas, to name a few.
Thomas Hearns started boxing as a child in Memphis, Tennessee. As an amateur he fought 155 winning matches.
In 1982 Tommy became the WBC super welterweight world champion by defeating Wilfredo Benitez, in a thrilling battle. In 1987 he climbed up to the light heavyweight division, conquering the WBC crown by defeating Dennis Andries via KO, after multiple knockdowns.
He later conquered the WBC world title as middleweight, defeating Juan Roldan. In 1988 he won his fifth world title, this time as a super middleweight defeating James Kinchen.
Thomas Hearns ended his wonderfully successful career on February 4, 2006, leaving his name forever emblazed in solid gold letters in the pages of boxing chronicles.
