The World Boxing Council featherweight champion, Australian Skye Nicolson and her rival Raven Chapman, held a training session open to the media where they showed that they are in fabulous fighting shape.
The fighters will face each other in Riyadh as part of the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol card, broadcast live on DAZN. At stake is Nicolson’s WBC belt, which she won in April by unanimous decision against Sarah Mahfoud and successfully defended against Dyana Vargas in July.
Here’s some of what both fighters had to say:
Skye Nicolson
“She’s aggressive and she’s a good fighter. She’s happy to take punches and get in close when she’s most effective at close range.
“I think she rushes through her work, I don’t think she sets up her attacks very well, I think she does all this kind of ducking and dodging without really thinking about what she’s doing.
“I just feel like an aggressive opponent like her lends itself a lot to my style. It’s going to make the fight more exciting if you hesitate.”
Raven Chapman
“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m so grateful for this opportunity on such a great show. A great stage, a great platform to really show what I’m about and show why I’m going to be champion.
“I’m going to show everyone what I’m made of. How tough I am. How strong I am. How relentless I am. How violent I am.
“It will be a fight of clash of styles, but I am sure that I will win.”
