Melvin Jerusalem successfully defends his WBC straw-weight title

World Boxing Council Strawweight Champion Melvin Jerusalem from the Philippines made the first defense of his title by defeating Mexican Luis “Flechita” Castillo by unanimous decision this Sunday, at the Mandaluyong City College in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.

The fight, which was organized by Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions, seemed like it would end early, because Jerusalem sent Castillo to the canvas in the first round with a right to the chin.

Jerusalem dominated the rest of the fight. The Judges declared a clear victory for the champion, with scorecards of 120-107, 120-107 and 118-109.

With this victory, Jerusalem made the first successful defense of the WBC straw-weight belt, improving his record to 23-3, 12 knockouts, while Castillo is now, 21-1-1, 13 knockouts.
