Shakur Stevenson will not be able to defend his WBC lightweight title after suffering a hand injury and undergoing emergency surgery.
Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) was scheduled to defend his belt against former world champion Joe Cordina, as part of the card of the undisputed light heavyweight championship fight headlined by Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
“God works in mysterious ways through the ups and downs. I’m hungry and more motivated than ever. 2024 has been my best year yet. The surgery went great, it’s a small setback to a great comeback,” Stevenson wrote on his social media.
The WBC wishes our beloved champion Shakur a speedy and full recovery.
