The WBC Praises Dirrell and Yildirim for their cooperation with the Weight Management Program
Ex WBC world champion, Anthony Dirrell, fights Avni Yildirim, this Saturday, February 23, with the vacant super middleweight title of the World Boxing Council at stake.
The WBC wants to recognize the professionalism of both fighters and their respective teams, since they have complied with all the medical requirements, exams and safety protocols that are required.
One of the main priorities of the World Boxing Council this year, is the implementation of the new Weight Management Program, which aims to protect the health of fighters
What is the WBC Weight Management Program?
1. Once the fighters and their teams have confirmed a match, the boxers must weigh themselves so that the WBC can know what their initial weight is.
2. Apart from our existing pre-weigh ins of 30 and 7 days, the pre-weigh in of 14 days will be added.
At 30 days, the boxers must not weigh more than 10% of the limit of their division, for the 14 days they must not exceed more than 5% and in the 7 days 3%.
3. Also, with the mission of ensuring the safety of boxers and their rivals avoiding over hydration, the World Boxing Council is implementing a weighing system on the same day of the fight, in which fighters should not weigh in the scales more than 10 percent of what they weighed during the official weigh-in.
* The fighters must be weighed in the dressing room of the arena where the fight will take place. It must be done to monitor that the established percentage is not exceeded, for the well being of the boxers.
In this way, both fighters only have to submit the new WBC weigh in on the day of the fight to verify that none exceed 10% and thus fully comply with the new WBC weight monitoring program.
