
Certainly the decor, especially the chandeliers had a special sheen and flawless gleam in a spectacular event hosted by Gafur Rahimov, First Vice President of the county’s Professional Boxing Federation.
The tambor marathon dancing was an extended treat to behold, as was the traditional dancing. Julio announced the WBC’s Fighter of the Year Saul Canelo, who appreciably racked up his phone bill with a call to the festivities.
Evander Holyfield and Oleksandr Usyk won specially engraved plates as did Champion of Hope Billy Dib. So did Kostya Tszyu and Roberto Stone Hands Duran.
The music and singing grew in tempo and intensity, so that no one took much notice when the song Hit the Road Jack cropped up.
The only one who had slim pickings and meager fare was WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, who was rushed off his feet in the job of compere and prize awarder. Everyone else was pampered.
