With the primary objective of continuing to care for the integrity and health of the boxer, the 3rd National Congress of Boxing Medicine FECOMBOX 2024 of the World Boxing Council was inaugurated.
At the ceremony, Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC, reiterated that at this meeting: “A new rule will surely emerge that continues to care for and protect the boxer.
“We have to follow the rules that there are always two ambulances at a function, if one goes to the hospital another one stays to attend, if there is something else.”
In this meeting that is based in Orizaba, Veracruz; More than 200 doctors, managers and special guests gather.
Highlighting the participation of Dr. Andrew Kluger, director of BoxMed.
They will talk about the necessary medical follow-ups for boxers, post-fight consequences, dental injuries and the crucial role of the ring doctor.
Among the seminars that will be offered are: “Functions of the Ring Doctor” by Dr. Lorenzo Soberanes Maya and “Sports medical monitoring of the boxer” given by Enrique Aguilar Saavedra.
Also included will be “Musculoskeletal injuries in boxing” by Dr. Ricardo Monreal Molina and “Nutrition and hydration in boxing” presented by Roberto C. Muñoz.
Other important topics will be “Neurological consequences of the boxer” by Francisco Aguilar Rebolledo, from the Rafael Guízar University and Valencia, and “Women’s boxing: myths and realities”, by Dr. Porfirio A. Gómez Rueda.
In addition, Dr. César Vázquez Carballar will talk about “Assessment and initial care of the knocked out boxer,” while a panel of experts will discuss “Rest times, post-fight and others” and Janeth Milan Camarillo will present “Oral injuries in the boxer.”
The Congress will also include a workshop titled “Concussion”, led by doctor César Chávez García.
