On November 24, Hurricane Otis made landfall in the state of Acapulco, Guerrero, as a powerful category five hurricane, becoming one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Mexican Pacific.
With winds of more than 260 km/h and gusts of up to 315 km/h, Otis left in its wake a scene of devastation and destruction, the fall of communication systems and a panorama where many of its inhabitants have lost everything.
The impact of Otis is incalculable, which is why the World Boxing Council unites in support of all the victims and in prayer to God to give them resolve, to face this terrible situation and rebuild its foundations, convinced that Acapulco will shine again with all its splendor. It`s always been one of the most iconic tourist destinations, which thanks to the exuberant beauty of its waters and cliffs, its gastronomy, culture, ecotourism and even nightlife, has drawn numerous artists, celebrities and personalities.
Today our thoughts and prayers are with those from Acapulco who a year ago opened the doors to us to celebrate our annual Convention in its 60th edition, with the majestic Palacio Mundo Imperial Hotel considered the best tourist complex as its headquarters.
Thanks to the unbeatable hospitality, our convention was memorable, with days of work, but also a lot of fun and camaraderie of the boxing family. Acapulco was the Green and Gold home for more than 1,600 attendees from 112 countries, 143 international media and more than 84 world champions, turning the most important boxing event of the year into a true party.
Today, we want to recall some of these memories of a great place which is striving to recover and will rebuild.
