Today, the super bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Yamileth Mercado, and the title challenger and pioneer of women’s boxing, Mariana Juárez, were part of our Coffee Tuesday with the intention of talking about their fight next Saturday in the City from Mexico.
However, when they finished talking about their fight of this Saturday, both joined in one voice with the intention of recognizing their efforts and those of their colleagues around the world.
Here’s what the stars of this weekend’s WBC super bantamweight championship clash said about the status of women’s boxing:
Mariana Juarez
Next year I will have 25 years as a professional fighter and I can say that this period has been wonderful for women’s boxing. Seeing Amanda Serrano Vs Katie Taylor at Madison Square Garden, Claressa Shields, Marshall and Baumgardner and Mayer in London has been wonderful and inspiring.
“Even though I wasn’t up there in the ring, I felt like they represented all of us. I felt that they fought for those of us who had to pave the way and for those who are currently building theirs. I am very proud to be a fighter
Yamileth Mercado
I am very happy to see how women’s boxing has grown and to understand that people are giving it the importance it deserves. It is very motivating for us to know that we can step on these stages and that we are going to receive the recognition we deserve.
