Former world champion of two divisions, Luis “Pantera” Nery, will fight Armenian Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan, in an elimination fight endorsed by the World Boxing Council.
Scheduled for 12 rounds, it will be the main event this Saturday, February 18, at the Pomona Theater in Pomona, California.
Luis Nery (33-1, 25 KOs), 28, is a former two-division world champion with a near-impeccable record – the only defeat was against Brandon Figueroa in May 2021, that saw him lose his world super bantamweight title.
Since then, he has sought to return to the top, winning the WBC Super Bantamweight Silver title against Carlos Castro in February 2022 and then defeating David Carmona in October.
Azat Hovhannisyan (21-3, 17 KOs) hails from Yerevan, Armenia and has made a name for himself in his division. The 34-year-old “Crazy A” has earned the respect of the Los Angeles scene with his impressive and aggressive style.
This Friday both warriors passed the official weigh-in showing that they are in excellent condition for this fight. Nery registered 122 pounds, while Hovhannisyan was 12.6 pounds.
The fight is organized by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Zanfer Boxing and will be broadcast on DAZN.
