Closing the week brilliantly, we had the privilege of chatting with our proud World Boxing Council Lightweight World Champion, Devin Haney.
Mauricio Sulaiman, Jill Diamond, Don Majeksy and Víctor Silva had the opportunity to talk with light superstar Devin Haney about multiple topics: his relation with Floyd Mayweather, his prognosis about the state of boxing, his passion for boxing, his beginnings as an amateur, his future, his rivalry with Ryan García, Gervonta Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko, his constant charitable activities and above all we had the opportunity to get to know him as a person, and what makes him keep his feet on the ground and the factors which distinguish him at just twenty one.
Don Majesky described Devin as a young man of wonderful potential. Jill Diamond praised Devin as a caring and a giving person to the needy and good causes, saying he`s developed a giving nature at a young age, and this is a quality you cannot teach. as it`s something which comes from inside.
Devin said his start in boxing came at seven years of age, when he found himself in a spot of bother at school. Recognizing Devin`s high spirits and abundance of excess energy, his dad took him to the boxing gym and Devin instantly fell in love with boxing, for which he has an aptitude, flair and a natural talent. He stuck at it and he simultaneously did a lot better in class. Devin`s number one boxing hero is Muhammad Ali. He said: “This is because of everything Muhammad also stood for outside the ring. He was a Great person. I also want my name to be remembered outside the ring as well as in it.”
Devin who went to live in Las Vegas when he was very young, has photos with Floyd Mayweather as a child. Floyd who is starting a new career as a coach in family tradition, has been advising Devin and giving him important tips. Devin commented: “I never thought Floyd would be a coach. The fact he`s working with me and giving me pointers and tips is excellent. I`m very blessed and I`m picking up all that he`s teaching me. We`ve been training during the past weeks, so I`m staying in shape and safe. I`m looking to get back into the ring in August. I`m itching for this and I can`t wait. Also, after surgery on my right shoulder It`s all the stronger.”
Although apparently, you can only drive one car at a time, Devin owns a Lamborghini, Mercedes and a Sprinter! Devin thinks Floyd might have bought too much jewelry and Floyd in his turn, has advised Devin to buy property and assets. He`s determined to invest for the future in order to avoid the bubble bursting, at a later juncture. Devin who`s already got his promoter`s license co-promotes himself along with the expertise of Eddie Hearn. Devin wants to be matched up with “Loma.” For him this will be a dream fight come true.
