At 11 o’clock sharp, Round 20 of our already traditional WBC TALKS began, in which we addressed the topic of how the gyms and trainers face these hard times of COVID-19, which keeps us housebound.
PANEL:
Mauricio Sulaimán WBC President
Manny robles
Alfredo Caballero
Ricardo Cerezo
Mauricio Bocanegra jr.
Victor Silva – mediator
Our panelists agreed that despite the atypicality of this situation, it is Practically important not to lose focus, and always look for the positive side of any situation. Even though all of our guests have had to close their training camps … most since March 23, it was agreed that they continue to make use of new technologies, maintaining contact with their pupils or with those who attend their gyms to practice boxing in a recreational manner.
Likewise, they agreed that they have taken advantage of this moment to maintain their respective gyms, since most of the time the continuous influx of people does not allow certain improvements or adequate maintenance to be made.
Viewing another important foundation stone and interlaced corrosive controversy, they also discussed professional boxers at the Olympics. At this point, Manny Robles said that professionals have to do nothing in the amateur arena, because it`sctaking away the opportunity of the Olympic dream from young people.
Waiting patiently for the government’s indications, our guests urged all their colleagues from other gyms to use this quarantine time to look for new ways to transform boxing and the ways of teaching, because from what we are experiencing, there will be a before and after. It is necessary to mold ourselves and above all to adapt. This is our responsibility.
