World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman announces that the International Olympic Committee, is asking them to work with AIBA, concerning amateur boxing in the Olympics, which is grave jeopardy.
At the WBC’s Convention in Kiev, Mauricio announced that the IOC has made contact regarding the letter, efforts and growing, their worldwide petition and proclamation in support of amateur boxing continuing in the Olympic Games.
“Mauricio said: “The IOC are inviting us to continue working with AIBA. And we are creating an external committee to communicate with AIBA.”
The IOC has given AIBA until November to come up with a plan about the future of amateur boxing, especially its role in the Olympics. Amateur Boxing has been part of the Olympics since 1904.
Mauricio Sulaiman said: “If we lose amateur boxing from the Olympics, it will be a major problem for the Sport worldwide.
“We encourage the promoters to participate in this process. If this Sport leaves the Olympic Games, it visa direct threat against Boxing.”
