Denise Castle (UK) Vs Norj Guro (PHILLIPINES)
The World Boxing Council has ordered a rematch for the Silver Title between the United Kingdom’s Denise Castle and Felipina fighter Norj Guro in the Atomweight Division.
The original fight between Castle and Guro was action-packed, concluding in a split decision victory to Guro in Dubai on March 26th 2022 – with the decision coming down to the final round.
Guro started the stronger, with Castle dominating the middle rounds. The fight ended with some very exciting and close final rounds, finalising in a close split decision. This is a real clash of styles that was a treat to the UAE boxing fans.
A rematch has been ordered by the WBC which is in negotiation. This will be a hotly disputed prospect with Castle determined to show the world what she believed should have been the correct result with a victory coming her way and Guro eager to prove that the original result was correct.
Castle, at 50 years old in the March 2022 match, looks to set a new world record for the oldest champion should she become the victor in the rematch. With the stamina and movement greater than many athletes half her age Castle is proving that age is a fight that can be held at bay! The mother of 3, who splits her work between Bournemouth University Sports Department and the PE Department of the Bournemouth Girls Grammar School – stated that the biggest challenge is balancing family, work and training – but with dedication she shows that it can be done and is an inspiration to many.
This looks to be early set for 2023 with Guro already having committed to competing in a higher weight division 27/11/2022 for another title. With the current WBC World Champion Fabiana Bytqui always ready and a good depth of fighters worldwide it looks like the Atomweight division is about to take 2023 by storm.
