Due to an initiative by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, along with the President of Mexico’s Olympic Medalists, Daniel Aceves, the Mexican Olympic boxing medalists received a well-deserved recognition from the World Boxing Council, in the ring of the Mexico Arena, the cathedral of combat sports.
Boxing is the second discipline that has given Mexico the most medals in the Olympic Games and for this reason, efforts were joined to recognize those who have brought glory to Mexico. That day, the Mexican Olympic medalist boxers received a replica of a WBC world champion belt.
That morning, a very special man for the organization could not attend: Misael Rodríguez, who is the last Mexican to win an Olympic medal in boxing. He achieved that feat in Rio 2016.
During our Martes de Cafe, we had the privilege of presenting “Chino” Misael Rodriguez with his so deserved recognition. He is now professional boxer in the middleweight division with a record of 14-0 with 7 KO’s.
This is what happened today:
Mauricio Sulaimán
“As an Olympic athlete, you put Mexico at the top. Now you are a professional and you have the opportunity to continue writing history. The World Boxing Council wants to recognize you by giving you this award. Thank you very much for your efforts, thank you for representing boxing with dignity, both as an amateur and professional.”
Misael Rodriguez
“Thank you for the invitation. This nice award is very special. Now that I have it, I feel more motivated to conquer my world champion belt. I tell young people to continue working hard for their dreams. We will continue to work hard and we will not rest until we conquer a new goal”
