Martin has gone down in history as one of the most influential boxers in history and a pioneer for women in sport. Born in Mullens, a small town in West Virginia in 1968, Martin turned pro at the age of 21 and after just winning two of her first four fights, she won 34 of her next 35 bouts, from April 1990 to March 1994.
Martin, the WBC world champion, gaining great notoriety and admiration for her style and aggressiveness in her bouts. After joining Don King’s team, she broke pay-per-view records for women’s boxing.
