WBC fifty sixth birthday bash
A fiesta to remember, celebrating the Fifty sixth anniversary of the World Boxing Council, which in that span has grown from eleven affiliate countries to one hundred and sixty six loyal nations!
The jamboree was held in Salon Rosita, Calz La Villa, Santo Tomas, to the North of Mexico City, where guests were serenaded by the mariachi group Leon. Inevitably they played A Mi Manera…the song that Don Jose Sulaiman so loved, and which characterized his tremendous life, devoted to making the Green and Gold ABSOLUTELY SUPREME. There were films of the all time WBC all time greats including Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, JC Chavez, Sal Sanchez, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Manny Pacquiao, Lennox Lewis, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns….and so many more.
The World Boxing Council of today has evolved and transformed by leaps in bounds in almost six decades. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said: “It is a much changed sport. We have established the foundations, standards, rules and humane equality and the performance. I`m so very happy today to be with friends in the WBC Family celebrating fifty six fantastic years. We always have to learn, be consistent and be successful.
“We have grown from eleven nations to one hundred and sixty six by walking the talk, by being persistent, by performing by having the dignity and the best interests of the boxers as our top priority.”
Mauricio who is celebrating five years as President of the WBC, also paid tribute to his Father Don Jose who was at the helm for thirty eight years. Looking at a montage of photos, which showed the extraordinary Life of Don Jose, Mauricio said: “Don Jose is very proud. He is with us.”
