The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaiman, are greatly saddened by the car accident which occurred on the Sonora International Highway, in which coach Jonathan Oros and others died.
The accident happened early this Sunday. Unfortunately not only did coach Jonathan Oros, 61, lose his life, but also seven young boxers and the driver of the vehicle. Many others remain hospitalized.
The group of athletes had attended a boxing competition in Ciudad Obregón, in the municipality of Cajeme. All were heading to Puerto Peñasco, a town where the coach had a big reputation for training good fighters, as in the case of WBC super flyweight champion, Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada, whom he trained in his early days.
A month ago, Oros joined the representative of Puerto Peñasco, who won three titles in the state stage of the CONADE 2020 National Games.
The entire WBC joins the family of these young champions, the coach and driver at this terribly sad time.
