Game on Cares
Today, in NYC at Major League Baseball, and in partnership with Beyond Sports, WBC Cares participated in Game On, which is a consortium of sports figures and health leaders focused on Mental Health Awareness and Sports.
Nine years ago, the WBC joined the Congressional Mental Health Task Force, and has been involved in many actions such as Anti Bullying, Anti Drugs and Teenage Suicide Prevention. Our message to youth is “You’re not alone!” And our Champions and WBC membership, share their stories and struggles in the hopes of inspiring them. Together, with small steps, we move from the darkness towards the light and a healthier place. The real work is never over.
At this gathering of political leaders, councilors and members of the sport’s world, we made a promise to each other to open up, share and seek answers. To forge better solutions for youth in trouble, using sports as a tool. To have ‘actionable’ solutions.
Among those attending were :
Nate Boyer, Former NFL Player & Green Beret, Corey Hirsch, Former NHL Player, Jessica Howard, Former US Gymnast and Brian Dawkins, NFL Hall of Famer, as well as Jerry Reed, Bob Turner, Todd Jacobson, Sr VP of NBA Social Resonsibilty, and many more representatives from various sports organizations.
This was our pledge to Rep Grace Napolitano, head of the USA, Congressional Mental Health Task Force, and we’ve kept it!
