On April 28th, in honor of the first Women’s fight to headline the main arena in Madison Square Garden, WBC Cares visited with Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem.
Eagle Academy is the only school in NYC with a boxing program and now, that youth are returning to class, they are going to start it again. It helps to have an activity like this to bring children back to School and keep them involved.
We are very honored to have great ambasaddors as the great actor Holt McCallany. WBC Cares Chairman Jill Diamond, Champs Iran Barkley, Jelena Mrdjenovich, Raja Amasheh, Nadim Salloum, Photographer, Henry DeLeon, Gym Owner Bruce Silverglade, Frankie Mendez, Referee, Sparkle Lee, Trainer, Eleanora Miteva. Together we represented the USA, Lebanon, Canada, Bulgaria and Germany.
They discussed the many activities in boxing for those who were not athletes, the discipline and passion that being successful in any endeavor takes, the principles of our sport, and goals and dreams.
The young men were particularly impressed with the women boxers and referee, as most people think of boxing as strictly a man’s sport.
It was an inspiring visit ending with questions from the audience. We thank the students, the faculty and of course, the wonderful volunteers who came with us this morning. We all left feeling upbeat and fulfilled.
Thank you Eagle Academy for trusting us with your students.
