Beyond strength, technique and tactics in boxing, mental preparation plays a crucial part while performing insde the ring. During training and fights, boxers must teach their minds to work with its own tools to deal with pressure, pain, fear, in order to maintain concentration and full focus . Here I tell you 2 strategies that you can implement to enhance your results:
Establish real short-term and medium-term goals: Work on defining objectives that the mind perceives as realistic, clear and achievable in the short and medium term. This provides athletes with clear direction, increasing their motivation and focus in every workout, sparring and fight. “Being a world champion is a realistic goal that can be achieved, respecting the process, meeting the objectives of your preparation and, above all, training your mind to believe that you can achieve it
Visualization and Mental Practice: Imagine scenarios throwing punches and landing combinations. Think about the strategies you want to use while sparring and, more importantly, in the fight. This practice helps to improve confidence and precision in the actual moment of truth inside the ring. Repeat this action also in your training sessions to enhance performance and practice visualization to master it before your fight, “Remember, practice makes perfect and in Boxing is no exception, train your mind”
A well-trained mind is as fundamental as physical preparation. It is no longer enough to just have talent; the better prepared boxer is will translate into the better results boxer will obtain.
