This Friday, June 16, in Metro City, Northbridge, Australia, former Australian Olympian Alex Winwood (3-0), headlined his second pay-per-view event by defeating previously undefeated Nicaraguan Reyneris Gutierrez (9-1), by decision, conquering the prestigious World Boxing Council International straw-weight title.
25-year-old Alex, who turned pro last November, has had a meteoric rise up the world rankings. In only his second professional fight, Winwood demolished tough fighter Tibo Monabesa via fourth-round TKO victory.
The victory over Monabesa created opportunities of higher profile opponents for Winwood, which he has seized without hesitation. Alex now holds the WBC International straw title.
The judges’ scores were 96-93 and 97-92 twice, all in favor of Winwood.
