Injuries in boxing gyms are a daily problem and there`s often a palpable lack of information about the proper treatment, so the WBC medical committee, led by Dr. Paul Wallace, hs developed a basic guide for the treatment of basic injuries, such as muscle tears, as well as ligament and tendon problems.
This guide tells us when and how to apply heat and/or ice, the amount of rest time and the gradual return to exercise according to a pain guide.
For the World Boxing Council, the protection of the boxer is the number one priority. The information and recommendations contained in the poster are not a substitute for medical treatment when injuries are significant, such as significant bruising or broken bones, in which case medical attention is essentially necessary.
For now, we have posters in English and Spanish. The short-term aim is to translate the information into other languages such as French, Russian and Japanese, and at a later stage, to do the translations for the countries that request the material.
The WBC has started a campaign where it will visit gyms to deliver these posters and make boxing people aware of this very important issue.
On this occasion Pepe Sulaimán, leader of the WBC office in Los Angeles, visited the Wild Card Boxing gym, owned by legendary trainer Freddie Roach.
