The WBC lands a “hook to overweight and obesity” in Tlaxcala
In an important alliance, the World Boxing Council, the Secretary of Health, the Popular Insurance and the state of Tlaxcala, established the program “Boxing for you Tlaxcala” aiming to combat overweight and obesity.
This program will take place during the weekends of the next three months in the main square of the Tlaxcala capital, next to the State Government Palace.
Dr. Alberto Jonguitud Falcón, head of the Secretary of Health and General Director of Health of Tlaxcala, stressed that organizations are putting emphasis on working on important public health problems such as overweight and obesity.
He said that this sum of efforts between institutions is largely due to the System of Social Protection in Health (Seguro Popular), which seeks partnerships for the development of this campaign in favor of sport as a way of preventing these two conditions.
Mr. Alfredo Lemus Saldaña, general director of the State Sports Institute, added that this type of events have a double mission as it also identifies prospects. He said: “These type of activities helps us to detect talent, to attract all kinds of children and young people who like boxing, so that they can represent us in national and international competitions.”
The state sports manager added that they have already received several requests from schools who are interested in participating in this event.
On behalf of Mr. Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the WBC, Mr. Gabriel Gonzalez said he was happy to be in the state of Tlaxcala, honoring the sports history, which has produced great champions, good boxers, bullfighters and athletes.
