The WBC Institutes “ The Gafur Rahimov Award”

Every single year, the World Boxing Council family has the privilege to travel all around the world to celebrate our annual conventions.

After many years we can state that the 61st annual meeting celebrated in Uzbekistan was simply spectacular, historic and one of the greatest in all of our history.

The WBC Family celebrated its annual convention from November 12 to 17, 2023, in the beautiful city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. An impressive country that surprised the whole wide world with its economic, cultural, and social richness as it combines history and tradition perfectly, displaying modern elegance.

However, nothing would have been possible without the contributions, support, and vision of a great man… Mr Gafur Rahimov; accompanied by his oustanding family and hardworking team.

Mr. Gafur Rahimov, also known as “The Father of Boxing in Uzbekiztan” is considered by the WBC boxing community as the greatest convention host. In every single presentation, visit or event held during our annual meeting he went far beyond expectations, constantly going the extra mile, providing the attendants, delegates and champions with a convention worthy of being remembered forever.

His important background in amateur sports and the Olympic committee combined with his passion and love for the sport constitute himself as an iconic asset to the World Boxing Council and professional boxing.

During a memorable moment of our convention, Mr. Gafur Rahimov presented a special award to the legendary Evander Holyfield for his contributions to the sport. The WBC would like to present something in return.

Today, the WBC announces the formal introduction of an annual recognition, which  will be awarded to the Men or Women who exceed expectations, to those who dare to dream and fulfill while maintaining humbleness and passion to serve.

The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaiman, are honored to institute the Annual “Mr.Gafur Rahimov Award”.
