The card named “War against breast cancer” seeks to find and raise awareness plus promote self-examination and medical check-ups with the aim of timely detecting, then combating, this deadly illness, which is one of the main causes of death among women.
The State of Sonora has specifically joined this card, to give a clarion voice to the women who are survivors of breast cancer.
In addition to the sports gala, this card aims to convey a message throughout Mexico and around the world about self-examination, which is absolutely vital in the detection and early care of breast cancer. This type of cancer currently afflicts and affects most people worldwide; representing 12.5% of new cases annually.
At the event, the DIF of Sonora, led by Lorena Valles San Pedro, will salute, laud and award six patients who defeated cancer, from the “Las Cucas” foundation. Additionally, the DIF will donate 100 mammograms to women who attend the Arena Sonora.
“Boxing is helping make visible and raise awareness about breast cancer, which is why we join this cause,” said promoter Rafael Soto.
The card has three women’s fights, namely the match between Camila Zamorano from Hermosillo (4-0, 1 KO) who will face the strawweight native of Coahuila, Paola Chairez, (0-2, 0 KO’s).
The main fight is David “Rey” Picasso against Colombian, Yeison Vargas, a 10-round super bantamweight fight.
