With the participation of the inmates who are part of the program, the sporting achievements they have achieved through the KO No Throw in the Towel project were shown to their relatives.
This initiative seeks, through the practice of boxing and comprehensive attention to emotions , contribute to the social reintegration of those deprived of liberty.
Undersecretary of Penitentiary Control, Mtro. Jacobo Olaf Rodriguez Garcia was present, who commented
“It is very gratifying to be part of this project. For the penitentiary system of the State of Mexico it is imperative to believe in social reintegration, we believe in the nature of the human being. There are circumstances and contexts that take us to different places, and we still have a lot of work to do.”
This program will soon have a tournament between prisons in the State of Mexico, said the secretary.
There was also the participation of the director of the prison, Verónica Jiménez; the director of the KO No Throw in the Towel program, Eunice Rendón and Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council.
The President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, explained that this program has become one of the organization’s most important and successful social programs, since the prison sector has been relegated and invisible for a long time; however, this initiative has shown, year after year, with numbers and facts that boxing is the key to change. He highlighted the work of Ms. Eunice Rendon and all the directives who have been instrumental supporting, believeing and developing the project.
He also thanked the boxers in this program because without their effort and dedication, but above all their desire to get ahead, none of this would be possible.
For her part, Eunice Rendón, director of the program, referred to “The program has been a success, more than 95% of the participants left the additions, in a voluntary context. I have worked with many sports with a view to social reintegration, but I can say that boxing is my favorite sport, this sport gives energy, motivates and gives a lot of discipline. I thank the WBC for the support I have always received from President Mauricio Sulaiman. Thank you very much to all the participants and above all, thank you very much to the families of all the participants for never having stopped believing”
The inmates talked about how this sport has helped them improve their lifestyles, it has reunited them with their families, it has led them to have new plans, to think about new realities, but above all, it has given them a peculiar sense of life. dignity, self-control, love and respect.
