Undisputed lightweight champion, Irish Katie Taylor, will face the WBC featherweight champion from Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano, this Saturday, April 30, at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York.
Ireland’s Taylor (20-0 6 KOs) will defend her world titles for the sixth time, since she won them in June 2019, defeating Belgium’s Delfine Persoon in a war and defeating her in a rematch. She subsequently defeated Miriam Gutierrez, Natasha Jonas, Jennifer Han and Firuza Sharipova.
“This is a fight I’ve wanted for a long, long time and I’m excited for it to finally happen because these are the kind of fights I’m in the sport for. People have been talking about this fight for years and now is the time for it to happen,” Taylor said.
Puerto Rican Serrano (42-1-1 30 KOs) already has an unrivaled legacy in the sport as a seven-division world champion. The champion based in Brooklyn will enter the fight, after knocking out Daniela Bermudez last March, dominating Yamileth Mercado in August and beating Miriam Gutierrez.
“It’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to headline a card at Madison Square Garden and do it against one of the greatest female boxers of all time, Katie Taylor,” Serrano said.
The fight, which is promoted by Matchroom Boxing, in association with Most Valuable Promotions, will be broadcast on DAZN.
