Shakur Stevenson (21-0-0, 10 KOs) won the WBC lightweight title by defeating the Dominican Edwin De Los Santos (16-2-0, 14 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight was a little slow and very cerebral, with both fighters trying to impose their boxing. Both fighters started cautiously in the first rounds, measuring the distance and testing each other with the jab.
De Los Santos presented a good defense and threw firm hands, but nothing worrying. Shakur was cautious, although with more technique than the Dominican. No one wanted to risk too much and that bothered the public who, from the sixth round onwards, began to boo as there was no real dangerous action.
The judges’ scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 116-112, all in favor of Shakur.
