Shigeoka and Mendez will clash for interim WBC straw-weight title in Tokyo
WBC seventh ranked strawweight Wilfredo Mendez of Puerto Rico will face third ranked Japanese Yudai Shigeoka for the WBC interim world title this Sunday, April 16 at the Yoyogi Second National Gym in Tokyo, Japan.
Yudai Shigeoka was initially going to challenge WBC strawweight champion Panya Pradabsri of Thailand, but unfortunately he suffered from health problems that prevented him from traveling to Japan.
Méndez, 26, a former WBO champion, arrived in Japan together with Koki Kameda, head of Kameda Promotions, after reaching a negotiation and obtaining the approval of the WBC so that the interim straw title of the WBC is at stake.
Mendez has a record of 18 wins, including six knockouts and two losses. As for Yudai Shigeoka, he is undefeated in all six of his fights, four by knockout.
Yudai’s younger brother, Ginjiro Shigeoka, will also compete in an IBF title fight at the same event.
