At the traditional “Mares de Café” Alfonso Picasso and Carlos “Bondojo” Hernández presented what will be the second state penitentiary tournament “Punches of Freedom” representing Dr. Eunice Rendón.
They explained that this program has been active for more than nine years and that it has yielded important results.
This program aims to develop social, psychological and labor tools which allow inmates to reintegrate into society once they out of prison, as well as reduce the levels of violence at the individual, family and community level.
There are two key components: sports and psycho-emotional.
Alfonso and Carlos explained that this type of initiative is proof that boxing is the tool to change destinies, since they have seen -in their experience- how people deprived of liberty find a new direction for their lives in boxing, focusing and working to better themselves.
In addition, they have witnessed the results of this program, since violent incidents inside the prison have been significantly reduced, in addition to the fact that people deprived of liberty have been reinserted into society.
They also explained that the tournament will take place this coming Thursday, August 10, within the facilities of the Chiconautla prison in Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
The tournament will have the participation of 32 representatives from 11 prisons in the State of Mexico who will participate in the cruiserweight, welterweight, middle and light heavyweight categories.
