Sana Hazuki (39) defeated Denise Castle (51) for the vacant WBC Silver Atom Title, at the Spaceplus Bangkok, RCA, when Denise retired after five rounds.
The pride of Bournemouth, Denise put in a tremendous effort, but it wasn`t to be and it wasn`t her night. In a statement following the fight, Denise showed her tremendous sportswomanship by saying:
“Let me be the first to congratulate Sana-fantastic opponent. Not the way I wanted the journey to end, but I have no shame in losing to a better and a respectful opponent. Sana beat me fair and square and I can go out with my head held high. I wish Sana all the very best.
“For me, the competitive journey is over. I have had a fantastic career, taking me around the world and I have shared the ring in some amazing matches. But without being able to compete at home and stay sharp, I cannot continue. In life, you have to risk it all, or live and say…what if? And I went for it!
“I am happy and proud of my twenty years of competition and excited for my future.”
