Undefeated World Boxing Council Silver super middleweight champion, Mexican Jaime Munguía (42-0, 33 KOs) will face teak tough British fighter John “The Gorilla” Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) in a 12-round clash.
This explosive fight night, presented in association with Zanfer Boxing and Matchroom Boxing, will take place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, January 27 and will be broadcast globally on DAZN.
Jaime Mungía, ranked No. 2 by the WBC, was last seen in June 2023 winning the WBC Silver Super Middleweight Championship against tough former world title contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko, in a masterful performance that was hailed as Fight of the Year Contender.
John Ryder showed off his true grit resolve when he went the full distance with current undisputed world champion and boxing star Canelo Alvarez in May 2023. In that fight he was knocked down and suffered a broken nose, but still battled on. He has dispatched several top contenders, the most notable being Daniel Jacobs in 2022. He is currently ranked number 8 super middleweight by the WBC. A worthy and exacting opponent. Munguia vs. Ryder is a 12-round fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. The event will be available worldwide to all DAZN subscribers, both live and on-demand.
Both fighters inaugurated the newly built Golden Boy Boxing Gym in downtown Los Angeles with a training session for the media. This was some of what they commented:
Jaime Munguia: “I honestly feel like I can knock out John Ryder. That’s what we’re working for. Obviously, once you get in the ring, everything can change. But we are training to enter the ring in optimal condition, and if we cannot achieve the knockout, we will make sure to win the decision.”
John Ryder: “I want to come in and make a statement… I am a different fighter now than when I fought Canelo. I think I learned a lot about myself.”
